Sean Finnegan, drummer for 1980s D.C./Maryland hardcore band Void, died last Wednesday of a heart attack at age 43. Void’s violence and velocity, as well as their love of cacophonous thrash metal and pure noise, can still flatten first time listeners more than 20 years later, influencing more “extreme” bands than you’ve likely got room for on your iPod at the moment, even accounting for the 30-second songs. His obit describes him as “loving father of the late Brian S. Finnegan.” Obviously the man’s known some pain in his life. RIP.
what a drag! the drumming in void was so completely underrated. sad to hear of him dying so young.
