queensryche_mindcrime.jpgWashingtonian and guitarist Scott C. Moughton got five years in the pokey yesterday for thieving the identity of Queensryche frontman Geoff Tate and helping himself to a Lexus in the process. The reason for his deception? Drugs! Really is there anything related to Queensryche that can’t be explained away by saying “drugs”? [Blabbermouth]

I don’t care what anybody says. The first “Mindcrime” album is probably in my Top Ten favorite albums of all time. Right up there with Sugar’s “Copper Blue,” Stuart Davis’ “Nomen Est Numen” and Negativland’s “U2″ (which is technically more of a single, or at the most, an EP, but I digress).

re: “drugs” – i once interviewed geoff tate and we weren’t like totally hitting it off until the end of the interview when we started talking about psychedelic drugs & authors. then it was all ‘OMG i love aldous huxley and terrence mckenna too! we’re so smart.’ or something like that. this was years ago and my memory of the event is sort of foggy (insert pot joke here or whatevs). the conversation might have been nothing like that. don’t let me be the one to suggest that tate did or read about drugs. sorry!
