arethosecougleboyjeansyourewearing.jpgJohn McCain has acquiesced to John Mellencamp’s demands that the Republican presidential nominee stop playing the Coug’s “Pink Houses” and “Our Country” at his campaign rallies. “You know, here’s a guy running around saying, ‘I’m a true conservative.’” Mellencamp’s publicist told the AP. “Well, if you’re such a true conservative, why are you playing songs that have a very populist pro-labor message written by a guy who would find no argument if you characterized him as left of center?” There aren’t too many catchy, uptempo pop tunes about union busting, unrestricted free trade, and a policy of entrenchment in an unwinnable war? Makes you wonder where we would be now if Bruce Springsteen had spoken up for himself during the Reagan years, doesn’t it?

Someone needs to write a song called “Big Black Tanks,” and that should settle the issue.

John Mellencamp is one of the few people/things that sometimes make me feel good about being from Indiana.

A blast from what might as well be considered the past. I think it was posted here “back in the day” of nearly a year ago, but I can’t find it.

Something tells me Johnny Cougar isn’t down with global warming either, and hates big burly SUVs spewing (supposedly) global warming causing exhaust into the air. But he was willing to sell a song to Chevrolet to use in their ads.

So I guess it isn’t about political differences as much as he is a money whore.

@DHMBIB: How’s about Letterman, James Dean and Michael Jackson? (Yes, MJ, is what he is now, but the most of his music is classic.)

Oh please! This is so obvious. Why JCM even though his politics are so far left it only takes two rights to get to the same place on the map? Because he knows that the only way an elderly white guy with Keating five ties is going to win the White House is on a tide of rising Amerigasms. I mean really, how far is he going to get on Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab”?

@DHMBIB: @DaeSu: I’ll give it to Johnny Cougar for being the only member of the Indiana rock Unholy Trinity to more or less maintain his sanity: the other two are MJ and Axl.
