Right now Flo “Don’t Forget That The ‘I’ Is Long” Rida is on TRL performing his inescapable–and terrible–No. 1 song “Low,” and not only is T-Pain not even there, dude was apparently rapping along with the track. Which would be fine, if a little embarrassingly low-tech, if not for the fact that he keeps falling behind his taped twin, and I’m pretty sure that at one point he just sorta gave up and let his DJ take over rapping duties. I’ll admit that I probably wouldn’t mind the trickery as much if the song wasn’t such a piece of garbage. It’s going to be No. 1 for the rest of the year, isn’t it? Blegh. [TRL]

I haven’t seen a rapper perform live to just an instrumental of their song with no pre-recorded vocal track in years, fwiw.
@Al Shipley: i have!
also if he’s going to go through the charade of having a dj why not, you know, go the extra mile and get the music-and-t-pain-only version?
@Maura Johnston: i mean i can understand it in solo performance contexts but here it was just lazy. and the fact that the dj seemed to be carrying a good part of the vocal performance too just seemed extra-cheesy.
Oh, how disappointing! I actually kind of like that song. But mostly for the T-Pain bits.
REEBOKS WITH THE STRAPS! BOOTY THAT YOU SLAP!
It seems to me like maybe Flo Rida showed up too hungover or too high to do the job which is pretty unprofessional on a show like TRL that caters to the teen crowd. Maybe he should have gotten himself some sleep last night and showed up ready to to the damn thing.
I’ve seen a lot of rappers do that, dating all the way back to LL Cool J on SNL in 1987. (He did “Go Cut Creator Go.” Why do I remember these things?)
I’ve spent 20 years now wondering: Why not just bring the instrumental version?
Isn’t it ironic that he has a Jimi Hendrix tattoo on his bicep?
Actually, I like this jam. At the very least the “boots with the fur [WITH THE FUR!]” part is good for a chuckle. You can’t take this song seriously at all.
he looks like a wax figure in that pic
@jordan_s:
WAIT THAT EXPLAINS EVERYTHIN
@michaelpop: I wuv you Mikeypop. We are back in agreement! (WITH THE FUR! WITH THE FUR)
he was at bed in miami during new year’s. i wouldn’t be able to pick him out of a lineup. however, i will admit that his song “every nigga gotta eat” is catchy. but yeah, this song is pretty much the woat.
What a talent!
I saw Lupe Fiasco’s show at the 9:30 Club a couple weeks ago, and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen, hands down. He was switching up tempos, performed with a live band and no vocal tracks, and even did some songs a capella. Shit was bananas.
