Three years after his still-kinda-tragic death, British radio institution John Peel finally has a headstone for his gravesite, inscribed with the lyrics to Irish punk band the Undertones’ Peel-beloved “Teenage Kicks” and the insignia from his football club of choice, Liverpool FC. [BBC]

Two words i love in the world of bootlegs: “Peel Session”…
I got to meet John Peel and watch him do his show one day back in the mid-90s…He never understood why people thought is was so intersting to watch him do his thing…than and he said he liked to watch “Baywatch” on mute while doing his shift…
I grew up in the village where John Peel was born and raised, which is about the least rock’n'roll place you can imagine. Over the years, the doctors’ wives are being slowly replaced with footballers’ wives, but that’s about as far as progress goes. So I thought you’d be pleased to hear that in tribute to the great man himself the local council approved the repurposing of a terrible local gym into a terrible local wine bar called The Ravenscroft so that the underage ironed-hair tangerine-tinted slags and Ben Sherman-touting scallies indigenous to the area can get bombed out their heads every Friday and Saturday on a comination of warm chardonnay, vodka redbull and the universally acknowledged fight fuel that is Stella Artois.
If Peel were alive – and I wish to God he was – he would be down the Dee View, sucking on a pint of stout in a corner and waiting for the dartboard to free itself up.
@Jay-C: Hero.
@pinkestpanther: great post! They should make a doc about Peel.
This man should’ve lived forever.
