The Flatmates Are Now Being Used To Sell Flats (And Heels And Wedges, Too)

Alternate title for this post: “Discount Shoe Chain Raids My ‘Favorite Songs Of Indiepop’ Playlist.” Because, you see, not only does the above ad for Payless ShoeSource use the Flatmates’ fantastic sugar-rush “Happy All The Time”–which has been previously discussed in this space–the ad after the jump uses “Does Your Heart Go Boom?” by the Joey Ramone-loving synth-pop outfit Helen Love. Why Payless has decided to aggressively go after the “intrigued by those Alice + Olivia designs, but wary of wearing white shoes before Memorial Day” demographic is beyond me, but hey, anything to liven up those Kitchen Nightmares reruns.

I almost fell out of my chair when I heard the Helen Love track. One of the more jarring ad/music juxtapositions I can recall.
