I haven’t spent a lot of time reading up on Girls Aloud’s Tangled Up, so perhaps someone already noted this, but the guitars on their new single “Can’t Speak French” sound like they were sampled from a Quiet Storm radio show, to the point where they’re distracting me from the vocals, the French maid-y outfits that the ladies are wearing (I do like that birdcage skirt, though), and the ridiculous “period” costumes that the dudes who become the girls’ ad hoc backup dancers were forced to don. Seriously, listen to it and tell me if they don’t scream Weather Channel Presents: Best Of Smooth Jazz to you, too. (Also of note: One of the single’s b-sides is going to be the version of Robyn’s “With Every Heartbeat” that the group performed on the BBC last fall. The only word that I can think of to describe said cover is “wobbly,” but I’m sure some Polydor employee will fix it in post. Clip after the jump.)

they should’ve released “control of the knife” instead
But that SINGLE artwork! The B-side mocking London hipsters! The French version (which should be an instrumental and then the phrase “Je Ne Pas Parle Francais” repeated a few times, lol wut)!
I think this is a killer singles package anchored by a very catchy song.
@JessaFields: love that song. i hope they consider a u.s. debut. the ywould have to posh up on their choreography and reshoot some of their videos, but i think they could work. thoughts?
@bess marvin, girl detective: Or “Black Jacks”! That should have been the lead single, I think.
