All Points West Festival Banking On Hopes That There Are Lots Of Radiohead And Jack Johnson Fans Out There

allpointswest.gifThe All Points West Festival–from the people who brought you Coachella, and set in bucolic Jersey City–has announced the lineup for its inaugural year, and people who wanted to see Radiohead play a show somewhere around New York City are going to be really, really excited, as the band is headlining two of the fest’s three nights. They’ll top the bill for Aug. 8 and Aug. 9; headlining the Aug. 10 show is 2008 festival staple Jack Johnson, whose Pollstar page is going to look like a list of every major three-day show happening in the US this summer pretty soon. Interesting– a bit light to start, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they’ll add more solid mid-tier/sub-headliner bands.

Radiohead for two nights? And toss in Animal Collective, Cat Power, The Roots, Andrew Bird and Underworld?  I’m in.

is it just me or is jack johnson headlining EVERY festival this summer?

Listen, I dislike Jack Johnson as much as the next person.

But I think festival promoters (wisely) recognize that Jack is enough to draw in some more mainstream fans who would otherwise be on the fence about going to Coachella, APW etc.

“Hmm, $200 bucks is a lot to see those weird indie bands. Good thing we’ll get to hear Bubble Toes!”

I think that joke has already been made.

I also think that Underworld and Youssou N’Dour are worth the ticket. And I bet that the place where every festival is renting the amplification equipment has somekind of “we throw a Free jack johnson” offer…

Surprisingly strong lineup; they’ve got four bands I’d like to see (Radiohead, Underworld, Rodrigo & Gabriela, and Youssou N’Dour). Unfortunately I’ve already seen Radiohead twice and Youssou once. Guess I’ll be staying home and listening to Everything, Everything.

I’d consider going to Jersey for this – even with Jack Johnson headlining.
