I got this all too! The mean 'reply to all' e-mails were way more annoying and less professional than the original accidental one--I'm pretty sure I get least five e-mails a day where I'm not BCCed when I should be. It's not that hard to grin and bear it--my e-mail's not a secret, otherwise PR people wouldn't find it.

Shannon apologized not long after, too:

Hi All,
I apologize for my email sent out … It was not my intention to CC everyone, but instead to BCC.

This was a mistake and I sincerely apologize.

I'm the snob, i have respect for music and the artists making it, and I have a response to this all, but right now, ironically, heh, i'm in the middle of writing a press release.

Below is the email we all received, it's not a press release, its a marketing survey.

I want to punch the bloggers who responded in the face. Even if Shannon’s email etiquette was poor, it’s HER FUCKING JOB TO SEND OUT PRESS RELEASES. She can’t check every single site every day. Part of being a blogger / site-owner is that you get lots of press releases, some of which don’t apply to you. Fucking deal with it!

Who cares? As a music blogger, I'd rather receive 50 or 60 blanket emails a day about new music from label publicists and indie PR firms like Big Machine along with my daily quota of mail from former Nigerian oil ministers than to receive no industry email at all.

Even if the label or PR company isn't repping somebody that you're interested in today, that doesn't mean that they won't be repping somebody of interest tomorrow. Personally, I write about music because I love it (it's definitely not for the money, heh!) and to get the freebies, you have to make some contacts.

It's equally unprofessional to slam some poor publicist or intern for this kind of email as it is to have received it in the first place. Perhaps it would have been better to send a nice email pointing out the young lady's faux pax and to ask for a review copy of the new CD they're pushing than to dis her in public. After all, she could be the publicist at your favorite indie label tomorrow...
