The Sasquatch! Festival Brings “120 Minutes” Back

>sasmyspace.gifThe latest festival-lineup announcement comes from the Sasquatch! Festival–held at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, Wash., and yes, the exclamation point’s theirs–which will have R.E.M. and The Cure as its headliners, a one-two punch that will surely get the wallets of nostalgia-crazed twenty-, thirty-, and fortysomethings aflutter. The roster for the three-day fest, which takes place over Memorial Day weekend, also includes R.E.M. tourmates Modest Mouse and the National, the Flaming Lips doing a “UFO Show” that features a replica of a flying saucer and premiering their long-in-the-works film Christmas on Mars, the Breeders, and a new collaboration between Mike Patton and Dan the Automator called Crudo. I don’t know why, but for some reason this fest’s lineup seems like the most interesting one to me yet. (Perhaps it’s the lack of Slightly Stoopid and Jack Johnson?) Full lineup (via Billboard) after the jump.

Oh wow, R.E.M. and The Cure were my two favorite bands growing up. I never expected to see them on the same billing. If Depeche Mode was playing that fest too, I might actually shit myself.

@extracrispy: From your lips to god’s ears. (About DM, not you shitting yourself, although that’s a sacrifice I’d be willing to make.)

@Michaelangelo Matos: yeah, beacause the sound there isn’t as good as the view, unfortunately.

the amusing thing about the Cure headlining is that the last time the Cure were supposed to headline at the Gorge, it was right before the Cure ditched their remaining tour dates because of Smith’s family emergency or whatever it was.

@taylorklong: true dat. the overhead hanging speakers last Sasquatch were a problem when the winds picked up–swaying and swinging HARD during the Polyphonic Spree set. they had to stop the show to fix them, delaying things by a couple hours. I was relieved no one got hurt.

I love the poster – it brings me back to 1995.

The reason you should be most interested in this one is that the Gorge, where it takes place, is absolutely beautiful; the backdrop is sometimes more interesting than the show itself.

@Cam/ron: That poster makes me think of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends.
