CNN Reclassifies Black Crowes As “Grunge,” Remains Blissfully Ignorant Of The Concept Of “Irony”

February 27th, 2008 // 14 Comments

Presenting two CNN anchors who, in the sliver of time that they’re allotted to discuss one of the day’s biggest soft-news stories, find themselves musing over the true meanings of an official statement from Maxim that they haven’t seen. And said statement is regarding a review they haven’t read. And it covers a band they’re completely unfamiliar with (although they do know that Kurt Cobain isn’t the Black Crowes’ lead singer)! Who said that there were no good examples of journalism out there in the world? [HT: Gawker]

    That was LAME-tastic. LAME!!!!

  2. Jasonbob7

OMG. Anyone else hear the female reporter say, at the end of the clip, “Fortunately they lasted a lot longer than Nirvana”. FORTUNATELY??? I didn’t think this whole story could get any worse, but she just took it to the next level.

  3. Felonious Monk

@Jasonbob7: I think she meant fortunately for them. Although, really, who knows.

  4. Rob Murphy

I’d rate this clip “2 1/2 circles out of 5″.

  5. SneakingThroughTheAlleyWithLalley

Gee, I’m so stoked grunge is back. I’m gonna go get out my Mudhoney tapes right now & celebrate.

  6. Lucas Jensen

@SneakingThroughTheAlleyWithLalley: But if the cycle starts again that means another Bush and Silverchair and…

  7. telophaser

Wow, somehow CNN just made Maxim look good.

  8. rich36

@DHMBIB: I’d give it the same rating too. I didn’t watch the clip, but that’s what I imagine it should be rated.

Big ups to the Black Crowes’ PR person. I haven’t heard this much about them since Kate Hudson finally finished up her 5 year acid trip.

Holy shit is all I can say. Sounds like a TMZ clip.

  11. The Mozfather

This must be how residents of Darfur, Kosovo and pretty much all of the rest of the world feel every day when they watch CNN. (Of course, when they can watch CNN.)

    owie owie owie owie!

I guess the subtle diffs between “grunge” and “Sub-Faces bar boogie ensemble” aren’t apparent to TV journalists. Or maybe it’s because they broke in the early 90s, and it was all grunge back then, right?

    @Jasonbob7: Wau.
