New York Times music critic and official rockism explainer Kelefa Sanneh is leaving the Gray Lady for The New Yorker, where he'll reportedly cover the "culture" beat; Sanneh wrote about World Changers Church International pastor Creflo Dollar for the mag in 2004 and penned a piece on corporate rap for it in 2002. No word on who will replace Sanneh at the Times—or even if he'll be replaced, given that the paper's going to cut 100 jobs from the newsroom this year. [Radar]

I hope he will continue appearing on some kind of podcast, his contributions to the Times Popcast get more entertaining every week. Someone get this man a radio show!
The New Yorker sounds like an odd fit for him -- what makes him interesting is his eclectic taste and the fact that he's got a nearly daily forum in which to express it. Then again, I wouldn't blame him from being a little burned out by the daily grind.
Anyway, hope he thrives in the new setting.
Considering Kelefa can write an article on practically anything music related -- black metal to country -- I think he'll have no problem finding something to write about at the New Yorker.
He'll be sorely missed though. He was my favorite Times writer.
Wait -- is SFJ still at The New Yorker? Or did I miss something?
