New Blind Melon Singer Will Always Have Shannon Hoon Right Behind Him

blindmelonnnn.jpgA special note to the Washington Post: If you’re going to do a big article on Blind Melon and use the news that new lead singer Travis Warren, a diehard fan of the band who finally got the chance to sing with his heroes, has a 10-inch back tattoo of departed lead singer Shannon Hoon–and that Warren is so proud of said ink, he showed it to his soon-to-be-bandmates at his first audition–wouldn’t it behoove you to at least get a candid shot of the man’s body modification? Especially since Blind Melon bassist Brad Smith described the feeling of meeting Warren as “It’s like the dog you loved when you were a kid came back from the dead and just showed up back at your door, wagging his tail like nothing had ever happened”? That tattoo has to have powers, I swear. [Washington Post; HT DHMBIB]

…and I thought a Creed tattoo was the worst idea ever.

…and I’ll file this away in my folder as yet another example of why The Washington Post is the greatest newspaper ever. (Except the Onion.)

I caught up with the print edition of the Post last nite. Even though the lengthy print piece includes two additional photos not found in the online flipbook, there are, indeed, no photos of Warren’s Hoon tattoo.

A new lead singer for Blind Melon? Who cared about anyone in that band other than Shannon Hoon? He made that band, and getting a new lead singer is a worse idea than when Inxs got a new lead singer! This is stupid.

The annoying neohippies are all coming back. Edie Brickell, Blind Melon… how long before the Spin Doctors have a new album?
