Vampire Weekend To Peak Sometime Sunday Afternoon

Amy Adams (whose IMDB page looks distressingly like my “favorite TV shows” list on Facebook) is hosting SNL tomorrow, and the musical guest is everyone’s favorite cultural imperialists, Vampire Weekend. Sure, I could make some joke here about them pulling a Ted Danson, but I think the horrible SNL sound mix will be punishment enough. Godspeed, lil’ rockers! [NBC.com]

What the hell is wrong with SNL's sound mix? Half the time the vocals are buried so deep you have to guess what's being sung.

I have no idea what a "Vampire Weekend" is or what their music sounds like, but I do know that Amy Adams is jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

re: "horrible SNL sound mix" - i thought the sound for wilco last week was fantastic. same with spoon last year. i think fault might lie more with the performer.

i'm sick of the afrobeat/yuppie blah blah surrounding vm. they're a decent pop group and i hope they can keep their heads through all this.

re: Ted Danson and black face. so now we'll connect Vampire Weekend to some of the most shameful means of proliferating racism in the world? LOLZ!!! vampire weekend, afropop, racism.

to anyone with any sense of class, i'm sure this can be ignored. but for anyone who has any respect for themselves and our society at large, the only connection i can see to ted danson is you trying to get some cheap laughs.

    good job mike. you douchebag.

@Clevertrousers: Both, but in this case, more the former than the latter.

Dr. Vegas really deserved more of a chance. I can't believe they pulled it after only 4 episodes.

  • Clevertrousers

Vampire Weekend are to Anitbalas what the Archies are to the Monkees.

  • Clevertrousers

@the rich girls are weeping: Are you talking about Vampire Weekend or SNL? I get that same annoying vibe from both of them...

  • the rich girls are weeping

The "hey kids, let's put on a show!" vibe is too much to bear. This is a sign of the apocalypse, right?

  • AquaLung

Man, that Danson joke was HIL-arious! And still completely topical 15 years later! Well done!

Maybe it's just me, but I just don't understand the appeal of a band that sounds like a bunch of college guys who got really high and accidentally played their Afropop and Elvis Costello records simultaneously, and decided it sounded good that way.

Now excuse me while I go listen to some Status Quo, who have been releasing the same song over and over since approximately 1971. ;)
