I think that Beatles night is a “damned if you do…damned if you do” type of situation. Seeing how the Beatles are probably one of the most iconic music forces in history, I feel as if the judges are going to pepper these kids with “you did a Beatles song like a second rate Beatle” and other various quips. If Michael Johns busts out “We Can Work It Out” he’ll take home performance of the night.

All masters are owned by EMI. Apple has final say on all Beatle tracks. So there is actually no cutoff point to their ability to say no…

Having said that…I can honestly say that these versions are all going to suck…nobody knows how to sing these songs like the originals…heck…I am wondering what kind of melisma filled hell people will be subjected to…or sub-James Blunt blandness…

@extracrispy: I believe this entire concept sucks balls, though the fact that the latter (read: more complicated) songs are safe is perhaps the only silver lining. (Downside: "A Day in the Life" has already been butchered on the Idol stage during the abortion that was their Sgt. Pepper tribute last year, so there's really nowhere else to go).
