Sir Paul McCartney has publicly denounced the culling of kangaroos in Australia, which are apparently so abundant that they “impact” other species. “There is an urgent need for action to protect kangaroos from a barbaric industry which slaughters them for meat and leather,” said McCartney as he distributed boxing gloves to a horde of ready-to-fight ‘roos. Until he publicly rejects the culling of kangaroos, I can’t take him seriously.
You haven’t really lived until you’ve passed out drunk on a sofa made of kangaroo leather.
From personal experience, being an Australian, I don’t know about any “mass culling” of kangaroos, though in some areas, they’re considered pests because they’re so common. But they’re native animals, so abundance shouldn’t be an issue.
Their meat isn’t that freely available. Although, EVERY SINGLE DAMN TOURIST STORE stocks kangaroo scrotum coin pouches. I have no idea who in their right mind would buy them, but maybe that’s why Macca’s so worked up.
If your in Australia, and you must eat meat, Kangaroo is, in my opinion, the most ethical choice by far.
-Native (part of the local ecosystem)
-Free Range (no factory farming evils)
-Nutritious (good for you!)
-Abundant (very)
