The Buckley version follows the Cale version more than it did Cohen's, so Cale might be pissed... or indifferent. Probably indifferent.

@tigerpop: not only "The Pretender" is still charting, but if you rank the songs on the chart by the audience they reach, it's actually the #1 alternative single in the US right now, 32 weeks after it hit the airwaves. I can't wait for the format to implode.

For the record (and, sorry, this is my bad): I know Leonard Cohen isn't dead. I was just (a) trying to be pithy; (b) indicating that Cohen (and his estate) probably makes more from songwriting than he makes from all his other activities (recording, touring, shagging improbably hot/younger women) combined.
