Dave DID NOT off from Doxology…ask anyone in the Tulsa music scene…the band he was in covered Eleanor Rigby for years and played it over 200 shows. Doxology just wants to get press from this.

as i was watching the early part of the show with my wife i speculated that David Cook was gonna pick Eleanor Rigby and then sang a verse or two to demonstrate how i expected his version would sound. And when he did show up to sing the song, it was a near note-for-note copy of my unique half-assed arrangement. So do I get royalites now (or are these guys from Seattle coming after me next)?

Something every musician needs pounded into their heads over and over and over in this day and age: if you cover, remix or sample a song someone else wrote, you are not owed any credit, ownership or royalties for your arrangement, no matter how unique or original it is. If someone else uses or copies it in some way, tough shit. If you’ve got some great creative ideas, put them in an original composition and copyright them, because that’s the only way you’ll get the kind of control and credit you might otherwise think you deserve for some cool Beatles cover that you and probably 50 other people thought up.
