outsidelands.jpgSurely I’m not the only person who, upon seeing the headline “Beck, Wilco, Panic set for SF music festival,” thinks that it’s kind of cool that Panic at the Disco are going to give at least one of this summer’s festivals something different–only to click on said article and find out that the “Panic” in question is actually Widespread Panic, which I guess makes more sense give that Jack Johnson is also playing the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in August. But still, meh. (Click on the logo for the currently announced lineup.) [Reuters]

    @TheContrarian: Somewhat related: I used to manage a record store that sold a bunch of new age music to the entitled class. Anyhow, nearly once a day, some one would come in looking for "chakra" music. To this day, I have no idea what that means, but I would go through a bit in which I would ask if they meant "Chakra The Monkey" by Peter Gabriel or "Rufus and Chakra Khan". Similar to your "Dave" story, it made me briefly happy enough not to weep openly over how much I was making an hour.

    See, this is what I hate about the jam-band scene: they have bands with both "Panic" and "Disco" in their names, and they wouldn't know a hook if one stole their hacky-sack.

    I used to manage a record store that had a Ticketmaster machine, and the stoned college kids would come in, look at me with their heavy-lidded gaze and say, "Dave?"


    Meaning Dave Matthews Band.


    I did have fuun with it, though. "David Lee Roth is doing another solo tour? Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics? Dave Thomas, inventor of Wendy's?" I'd ask with faux-earnestness.


    Good times.


    Well, not really. But it helped my 20s go by.
