You Wrote It, You Watch It: Prince On Solid Gold

Don’t say Idolator never gave you anything. By request from the comments section, here’s Prince in all his smoke-machine/lip-sync glory from the classic program Solid Gold.

    At least Eric Foreman gave him a nice intro..

    Too kind, sir.

    That’s Rex Smith, IIRC.

    Wow.

    I’m fairly certain this is how I first witnessed Prince. I mean, this is probably late ‘82, early ‘83, right? So I’m 11…I don’t have MTV yet, Z100 in New York doesn’t exist, and I don’t think my parents had even purchased our first Betamax quite yet, so I can’t even tape Friday Night Videos (which also, I think, didn’t yet exist).

    Sorry for the rambling reverie…I’m just saying, Solid Gold was even more formative to my youth than I think I’ve even acknowledged.

    How about a Rex Smith compilation of him butchering popular songs of that era on the show?

    @antistar2000: hahaha LOCK THREAD

    @Chris Molanphy: Ditto. No MTV for me and I was probably too young to stay up late enough to watch Friday Night Videos. I don’t remember the host guy (Eric Foreman! Ha!), though. Gimme some Dionne Warwick!
