Now We Can See What A Bad Idea “Kanye + Coldplay” Is

I’m disappointed that the last two singles from Kanye West’s Graduation have been from the final (and weakest) third of the album (sorry, the “paparazzi/Nazi” line kills “Flashing Lights” for me). At least we got “Homecoming”’s stroll through Chicago, complete with static shots of Common, rather than a visual representation of that giant smooch on Jay-Z’s ass Kanye called “Big Brother” (also known as “P.S. We Should Be Together Too”).

But it’s hard to look at the bright side when it includes a dancing silhouette of Chris Martin, a visual disturbingly reminiscent of the shadow dancing in Midnight Oil’s “Beds Are Burning.”

Michael Stipe, please never do something like this. Please.

    Michael Stipe invites the rappers to his albums, not the other way around. Damn that radio song!

    Yeah this sucks but Flashing Lights I definitely loved. Nazi or no. Didn’t ‘Mona Lisa, you know you can’t Rome without Caesar’ make up for it?

    Never liked the song (the original “Home” with John Legend was a much better use of the verses), and I’m disappointed that it got the single spot that was originally reserved for “Champion,” but the video is pretty nice.

    Gotta say, first time I’m in hands down disagreement with the Idolator.

    This is the shiz.

    Chris Martin, please never appear on Sesame Street. Please.

    DJ Drama (I think) did a version of “Flashing Lights” with Clipse rapping over it, and it’s amazing how that song catches fire when you replace Kanye’s verses with competent rappers. It’s night and day. I wish I knew where to find that version, but anyone who likes that song should check it out.

    “Everything I Am” would make a nice single. Just saying.

    @KingHater: DJ Drama is the famous mixtape DJ who hosted the last Clipse release, DJ Benzi is the sub-Hollertronix blends guy who put vocals from a Clipse track over the “Flashing Lights” instrumental five minutes after Graduation was released.

    I like how you guys are trying to redeem the worst line in that song by quoting the 2nd and 3rd worst lines.

    “the final (and weakest) third of the album”???

    Seriously? I’ll gladly take “Flashing Lights,” “Everything I Am,” “The Glory” and “Homecoming” over “I Wonder,” “Drunk and Hot Girls” and “Barry Bonds.” I actually dig this song, and didn’t find the Martin silhouette too distracting from the video’s power.

    @Charles A. Hohman:

    “I don’t know dawg”

    The album just sorts of sets itself into this lazy, mellow like groove from Everything I Am onwards. I can’t even tell you the last time I listened to Homecoming or Big Brother. [Okay so The Glory is a diamond in the rough towards the end. I admit it.]
