Slipknot’s New Masks: They Swear They’re Serious

SlipknotgrrrExtreme metal harlequins Slipknot have a very peculiar image on the front page on their Web site, one that allegedly reveals what their new masks will look like (they’re really into masks, if you didn’t know). “100% real,” says an executive at their label. If this isn’t an April fool, and they’re actually going to move around stage wearing in those things, I’m impressed. Very Rapa Nui meets 12 Angry Men. Screencap of the masks after the jump, in case you don’t want to have your computer bogged down by Flash.

    And the Pope said to his aide…

    “Whooooo the fucking hell are Slipknot?
    Whooooo the fucking hell are Slipknot?
    Whooooo the fucking hell are Slipknot,
    In relation to me getting out of bed?”

    Without having listened extensively to their music or owning any albums, I consider myself a Slipknot fan. It appeals to the 13 year-old boy in me, and I appreciate what it takes to maintain a large band. I think they’re ridiculous and cool.

    I like this. Bread & Puppet for the metal set.

    One would think that wearing masks this large and cumbersome might affect a bands ability to properly articulate difficult instrumental passages.

    But not Slipknot. They’re that good!

    @FionaScrapple: Nice.

    Or, maybe, difficult instrumental passages are that irrelevant.

    If they actually do this maybe Oderus Urungus will not hunt them down like he should have years ago.

    Gwar forever.

    I was once offered free front row tix to a Slipknot show. I only knew their hit from several years ago and had no idea what to expect and it was one of the absolute most entertaining shows I’ve ever seen.

    Still the only time in my life where I saw a drummer play a 15-minute solo perpendicular to the ground, on a drum kit that went almost all the way around him.
