The latest eponymous Weezer album is already being touted as "The Red Album" in keeping with a now color-coded tradition. Guess "The Periwinkle Album" will be easier to remember in 20 years than "Another One Where Rivers Makes Us Feel Awkward And Everyone Complains About Matt Sharp." [Billboard]

  • Does this count as another "comeback"? If so, can it not suck as much as the last one?

  • I need me more Matt Sharp. And I thought Rivers was dunzo with the weeze.

  • Were we complaining about Matt Sharp, or the absence of Matt Sharp? Think wisely.

  • I was hanging out with some friends sometime in early 1999 and I was going on and on and on about how much I loved weezer and how amazing they were and how I was their number one fan forever. Anyway, one guy was like "which one do you like better, blue album or pinkerton?" and I said "pinkerton?" I got a lot of shit for claiming to be their biggest fan and only owning one of their albums, particularly because they had only put two out. So I bought Pinkerton. That's the end of the story.

  • @jfk1624: How is that the end of the story? About 9 minutes after I bought Pinkerton my little 15yearold world was never the same.@tigerpop: And -hahaha! YES!

  • It's the end of THAT story. The story of me being their forever and always super hardcore number one fan goes on and on and on. I still only have the two albums though.

  • @jfk1624: Well, ya certainly didnt miss much from their last 3 efforts. Still havent listened to Rivers solo thang, I heard it bites.

  • It was mentioned in the last article's comments, but seriously -- if anyone's got a bead on the old "Maladroit" demos, they need to see the light of day again. Clear proof of how perfectly decent songs can get buggered in the "official" recording process.

  • @Halfwit: I know nothing of these alleged 'demos' but my interest has been peaked.

  • Weezer has to have the whiniest, complainist fan base of any band ever. If any other band puts out a good debut album and a lame follow-up, people write them off and then move on, they don't spend the next decade plus continually buying their subpar albums and whinging about it.

It wouldn't bug me half as much if that first album wasn't so awful, the success of which was obviously based upon the videos. If people are whining this way about OK Go in 10 years, i'm going to scream.

For the love of god, let it go, people.

  • Oh God, I just know it's gonna suck. I'm so scared.

  • @SneakingThroughTheAlleyWithLalley: A few months before Maladroit was released; weezer.com officially released about 27 demo tracks in a giant zip file. A lot of the songs made it to Maladroit in different versions ("Keep Fishin'" is a notable example), and I think a couple are represented on the new RC solo disc.

For an official bootleg, it had a pretty long lifespan on their website (beyond the album release, even), but it's been surprisingly hard to find since they took it down.

  • @HomefrontRadio: OK Go now does NOT equal Weezer's Blue or Pinkerton.

I mean I even kinda like OK Go but "Sweater Song" on 120 Minutes and "Tired of Sex" were life changing, not toe tapping.

Yeah, people complain that Salinger and Neutral Milk Hotel never released a next masterpiece too, but do you really blame them after they saw the brilliance? Maybe the Green Album is why both of those artists never went for a follow up...

    Just sayin.

  • So does another "color album" mean this is supposed to be Weezer's fresh start, Mark III?
