Feist Feels The Weight Of Toting Around Five Juno Statues

AP080406025512.jpgStarbucks fave and allegedly swoonworthy singer-songwriter Feist was the big winner at last night’s Juno Awards–you know, the Grammys of Canada?–sweeping the Single of the Year, Album of the Year, and Pop Album Year categories and taking home the awards for Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year as well. But the fans were not having any of it, handing Michael Bublé his only award of the night through voting on the Juno Web site. Yeah, you tell them what side of the smooth-music coin you like, people of Canada! Full list of winners–which is absent of the words “Avril,” “Lavigne,” and “Celine,” but does have Finger Eleven and Ozzy Osbourne–after the jump.

Drake, Juno Awards 2012: Young Money MC Battles Justin Bieber, Feist

Well, at least Anne Murray didn’t win anything this time. Also, while I like Leslie Feist well enough, I was a little surprised by the Songwriter of the Year nod since she’s at best a co-writer (”1234″, “My Moon My Man”) and sometimes only an interpreter (”Secret Heart”, “Inside and Out”) on many of her better-known songs.

Oh cool – that song “1,2,3,4″ won — everybody sing it with me!

“One, two, three, four….nahhh nahhh nahhh nuh nahhhh nuh nuh”…

Memorable lyrics for the ages, I tell ya.

So, Maura, who’s Serena Ryder? Is she anything? And was Juno at the Junos? And Blue Rodeo is pop americana—that is SO canadian. Polite, ya know….

@Oldboy: here’s serena ryder’s ‘weak in the knees.’ keywords on this video include ‘the l word’ and ‘degrassi’ and ‘one tree hill.’ also, this song is not as good as swv’s ‘weak.’

    “Rap recording: The Revolution, Belly”

They have rap music in Canada?

  10. ThreeBirds  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008

Serena Ryder is much better than that song would suggest. She’s been around for quite a while, but just started getting recognition with her newest album, which is not her best. Listen to Hiding Place on her MySpace and try to dig up stuff from Unlikely Emergency or her first live EP. So good!

I am embarrassed to be Canadian with that list!

The Junos have always been out of touch….

Best songwriter in Canada is Carl Newman…
