Tween Sensations Past And Present To Collide Somewhere Off The Jersey Turnpike

mileycovergirl.jpgBack in December, Jess and I ventured into the depths of New York’s Madison Square Garden to cover Z100’s annual Jingle Ball, a megaconcert where the screams of Jonas Brothers fans drowned out everything else. Ticket sales for that show must have been great, because the spring installment of the pop megastation’s Now That’s What I Call A Concert Series–Zootopia 2008, set for May 17 at the Meadowlands–is not only bringing back the JBs and throwing in a Miley Cyrus performance, it’s also hosting the first show by a certain reunited boy band. I guess that’s their way of making the moms interested in buying tickets of their own, and not just getting smashed at a TGI Friday’s nearby. Full lineup after the jump.

Miley Cyrus
Jonas Brothers
Simple Plan
Sara Bareilles
Gavin DeGraw
Ferras
OneRepublic
Jordin Sparks
New Kids On The Block

Oh, the oral sex references that are going to abound on the text-messaging screen that night! And if you want to know what the New Kids’ new album, which is due out sometime in the near future, might sound like, here’s a taste of what’s apparently going to be their next single, the photography-inspired “Click Click Click”:

That backing track is a little Max After Dark for me, but maybe they’ll make the video a Blow Up homage.

@Rob Murphy: i believe one of their songs plays in my kids scooby doo dvd. quite possibly the peak of their success.

@Rob Murphy: I dunno what it is about A Simple Plan, but among the third-rate emo-boy bands, Z100 adores them and plays the living shit out of them.

Which is good, because, even though I like to (and am obligated to) listen to Z100, it’s helpful to have an excuse to flip the station.

@f1sh3r: I thought the peak of Simple Plan’s success was their appearance in the Mary-Kate and Ashley cinematic classic, New York Minute.

Also, speaking as someone who wasn’t much of a fan of The Bangles back in the day, but their song “Tear Off Your Own Head (It’s A Doll Revolution)” from the same film freakin’ rocked!

I have no idea who Simple Plan is…but their name pops up an awful lot.

@ObtuseIntolerant: OK looked them up. They were one of those bands that made me question why they had more credibility than certain kiddie bands mentioned here, above. Hm.

@Rob Murphy: “Tear Off Your Own Head” is an Elvis Costello cover, btw. (Not that you asked.)

Also, can we not refer to the Jonas Bros as the JBs ever again? Kthxbai.
