Simple Plan, the Canadian dill pickles behind “Addicted” (“I’m adic…I’m addicted to you”), “Perfect”‘ (as in “I’m sorry I’m not…”), and the self-pitying drunk driver’s lament “Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me?),” have released a video for their new single, “Your Love Is A Lie.” The pop-punk moment these hacks rode in on is long gone, and as they’ve got no hope of going emo, they’ve teamed with Evanescence producer John Fortman and Timbaland protege Danja to rip off every possible milquetoast hook in one last desperate attempt to attract a new teenage fanbase.
The opening hook is a dead ringer for Jojo’s “Leave (Get Out),” until the vocal apes Green Day’s “Boulevard Of Broken Derams.” The chorus throws in Michelle Branch’s “Are You Happy Now?” and at least three Avril songs. When he says “do you think of me when he fucks you” in the unedited version, its very Alanis. Someone who’s heard a Jesse McCartney song can says which of those this rips off too. On top of all this petty thievery, its a song about how angry Pierre Bouvier (I swear to God, that’s his name) is that a girl cheated on him. Get used to it, Pierre. Resist, Radio Disney! Resist!

Telly from Kids is their lead singer?
I love guitars that are un-hearable. The guitarists rocks out, the singer makess a “here we go” face and you hear something but I’ll be damned if it’s a guitar. I also love the hats.
I totally misread that headline. Whew!
@Chris N.: LOL me too! I would never have clicked so quickly on something Simple Plan-related unless it had to do with, well….
Oh yeah and that song is awful too. Great call on the Branch/JoJo/Green Day/Alanis refs….all are accurate!
Although, I do think there is worse stuff out there for kids to listen to besides Simple Plan. So props to them for at least keeping it clean and disposable, the way youth-oriented stuff should be.
Damn, even the phrasing of that “how does it when you kiss…” lyric apes Alanis! That was awful…but then again, it’s not like they were ever original in any way, since they started as what sounds like a Montreal SoCal punk tribute band:
I got the vibe off this video that the girl is openly dating the shirtless guy who lives in the apartment. Pierre is just the weirdo with the telescope who watches and slowly builds an imaginary relationship with this stranger in his head.
