2008_2_22virginfest.jpgThe line-up for the Calgary edition of the Virgin Festival has been announced, and I recognize the names of a whopping eight out of the 19 bands listed on the official website, including Americans Stone Temple Pilots, the Flaming Lips, and Face To Face. (Didn’t even know they were still together when I played “Disconnected” on the jukebox this weekend.) Canadians (or border-dwelling Americans) can get the rest of line-up by clicking on the logo to the left. [Virgin Festival Calgary/HT: Matt Learoyd]

    Pride Tiger

    I was wondering when the Glass Tiger influence would start appearing in music.

    Face to Face reunited within the last few months I believe.

    Yay for Can Con! I recognize most of them! Just too bad they didn’t get Moneen, Faber Drive, Marianas Trench or any of the other superstars-on-and-only-on-CTVglobemedia-channels.

    Wow, not the Corb Lund?!

    (Anyway, nothing matters when they’ve got The Hip involved.)

    Does the Virgin Festival have to follow the same rules as Canadian radio that 60% of their playlists have to be Canadian?

    You just sold a 99 cent download of “Disconnected.” Face to Face and I thank you for this unexpected walk down memory lane.

    @Chris Molanphy:

    He’s actually pretty good…as, surprisingly, are several other bands in this line-up. Said The Whale are a good Shins substitute, The Whitsundays play some pretty inspired ’60s pop and Attack in Black are substantially better than their name would lead you to believe. Matt Good and City & Colour are pretty horrible, but that’s balanced out by The Constantines and The New Pornographers…
