A bunch of blogs are trying to give away copies of the soundtrack to the indie film Smart People starring Juno's Ellen Page, Sideways' Thomas Haden Church, Sex And The City's Sarah Jessica Parker and Enemymine's Dennis Quaid. Sounds like a quirky sleeper, but what's that on the soundtrack? Why, Nuno Bettencourt! Lots and lots of Nuno Bettencourt!
Bettencourt wrote the strummy acoustic original music to the upcoming Miramax comedy/Sundance hit, "Smart People" (which stars Ellen Page, Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church as a random group of friends and family that come to the aid of Dennis Quaid - a recently widowed professor dealing with the after-effects of a concussion).
The digital-only soundtrack release comes out April 11 via Miramax/Hollywood records and features, Bettencourt's original tunes (with vocals too), newly-reformed '90s Australian hard-rock band Baby Animals (fronted by his wife Suze DeMarchi), and former Extreme bassist Paul Mangone.
A reunited Baby Animals! And we all Nuno know can bring the strummy acoustic goodness.

This song was one of my favorite songs of 10th grade, but the religious undertones in the lyrics should be pointed out to those of us who were like me and who didn't get the references.

@Maura Johnston: I knew how to play "More Than Words" when I was in 10th grade (save for that finger-tapping nonsense at the end), but I didn't realize until at least two years later, well after the song was out of vogue, that it could have gotten me so much ass. Sigh.
That song rivals Live's "Lightning Crashes" and Green Day's "Time of Your Life" as one of the most wildly misinterpreted ballads ever.

Nuno's yet another hotshot guitarist who forgot his roots. We miss him. Why he'd want to go back to playing Simple Riffs 101 is beyond me.
I always got a kick out of playing "Hole Hearted" for visitors to my house. I enjoyed the irony of standing next to my Miskatonic University Thaummaturgical Doctorate hanging on the wall, and playing a blatantly pro-God song. Plus, "Hole Hearted" is an excellent show-off song, that sounds harder to play than it really is!
