Is three weeks 15 days out too late to announce a headliner for your festival? Guess not. From the inbox: “Prince has joined this year’s line-up for the ninth COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA (Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27) as the headliner for the second night of the critically acclaimed festival.” Unfortunately, the headliner he’ll be bumping down is Portishead, not Roger Waters. The crucial question: Will this juice ticket sales or not? (I’m actually considering going now, so I suppose the answer is “maybe.”) Let the comment-filled blog posts commence! [Photo: Getty]

Wow, sometimes it DOES snow in April.
@joshservo: You win.
Portishead/Prince is a dream combination, in any event.
My pants just got tight. When’s Coachella coming to New York?
Man, now I really want to go to Coachella.
Fuckin Awesome. Finally, Coachella gets some new weapons after the announcement of Lollapalooza and any other festival stellar line ups. On Saturday, i’m going be torn between Prince or Kraftwerk. Damn you Coachella, Damn You.
@dan13l:
I’d never, ever, ever want to choose between Prince and Kraftwerk. This almost makes me happy that I can’t go.
…
Almost.
Maybe Prince will cover “Sex Object” and everyone will be happy! Sort of.
see prince at any cost. he is one of the only arena type acts i would pay to see. his live show kills.
@harumph: I saw Prince in ‘97 or ‘98 and his show consisted mostly of medleys. Medleys!!! I mean, I know he’s got an extensive catalog, but come on! I always wondered if this is just his thing or if he just really hated our city.
@essdog: the “Jam Of The Year Tour” was definitely not his finest hour, as far as setlists go. The sets he plays now are a lot better.
wow this Roger Waters bashing is really getting tiresome. People were ok with Red Hot Chili peppers and Rage Against the Fucking Machine for God’s sake last year, but Roger Waters is a problem?
pretty much everyone who headlines these festivals is washed up. At least Waters had musical merit once. I guess this just highlights once again how little indie “music” writing tends to be about music.
@drjimmy11: seriously. people are wetting themselves over seeing NIN but give the hipster eye-roll for a legend like Waters.
@dog door: I’m not a huge fan, but seeing the reactions to Roger Waters, you’d think they’d booked Mike fucking Love!
Well, the problem is Kraftwerk and Prince both played in my city on separate tours in the summer of ‘04… so, ur, can’t get too excited. Sorry guys.
I really wish Coachella would just sell out already so I can stop being tempted to buy the three-day.
wait, so Kraftwerk and Prince are clashing?
god no, please, tell me it isn’t so :-(
Unless this sells an extra 40,000 tickets, this might not have been the best decision considering what they paid for him…
