MTV has a pretty thorough (and thoroughly depressing) look at the wave of recent anti-emo kid violence in Mexico that includes interviews with both sides of the conflict, as well as an interview with the Mexican TV host Kristoff, whose YouTube-spread rant, some say, helped fan the flames of violence. For his part, he said that he was anti-violence, and that his frustration with “emos” comes in part from the fact that the fans–mostly teenage girls who only like the bands they like because they’re cute, he pointed out, thus adding a new layer of sexism onto this whole mess–are trying to retrofit any genres of music they like into their own subculture.
