Would You Like To Know What “The Ting Tings” Are?

TingTings.jpgIf you’ve scrolled through the festival line-ups we’ve been posting of late, you may have noticed the words “The Ting Tings” a few times and said to yourself, “my, I wonder what kind of people would think to name themselves The Ting Tings?” only to be distracted by a leak from some popular band you don’t even like. I know have! The Ting Tings are a male-drummer/female-everything else duo from England that may be the next big iPod ad sensation or Britain’s very own Boomkat.

Here’s the video for “That’s Not My Name,” which appears in the aforementioned ad.

Are you feeling this? Fannypack-style jumping jack hook aside, it’s not doing much for me. I’m sure I’ll have plenty of opportunities to change my mind before May 20, when their album We Started Nothing comes out

The Ting Tings inspired by sadness
The Ting Tings write better music when they are upset. The 'That's Not My Name' hitmakers - made up for duo Katie White and Jules de Martino - would not like to release a happy album because it would be unlikely people would want to buy it.
Listen to a New Ting Tings Song, "Soul Killing"
The Ting Tings released today a new song from their forthcoming album, Songs from Nowheresville. The track was released through Spinner and is titled “Soul Killing,” a song that frontwoman Katie White said is “about frustration in this biz.”

Their song “Great DJ” is/was the free song on iTunes this week/last week. (I can’t remember exactly when I downloaded it.) Its ok. Catchy enough, but nothing to write home (or a blog post) about.

She’s sorta hot as a cake (sorta)…but, withal, yuk. Remind me to record something more exciting than this in 11 minutes when I get home. Thx!

I was much happier when scene girls were content to do this shit at karaoke night and nowhere else.

Great DJ gets better after repeated listens. That’s Not My Name is much better for singing along in the car, though.

Great DJ is become a video staple on my Thursday nights here in Tampa..

the drums, the drums, the drums….

I like the Ting Tings- their songs can get even the most pretentious of my friends singing along, and in my works that counts for a lot.

The song in the iPod ads is called “Shut Up and Let Me Go” though. “That’s Not My Name” is… well… not its name.

@How do I say this … THROWDINI!: FYI, in re-reading my comment, it might seem that I was slamming this post/band as unnecessary/unworthy. In reality, I was just referring to the song as being “eh.” I like posts like this, that talk about bands on the fringe of public (i.e., my) consciousness.

@kisskisskiss: wooooops. You would be correct. Here’s “Shut Up And Let Me Go” (no official video, though, yet).

    ugh,

    “>here is the song.

  10. I’ve found myself putting “Great DJ” on every morning for the past week or so. Much better song.

    @Anthony Miccio: one more time!

  12. Hmm. Logo’s New Now Next was ahead of the curve? Color me surprised.

I’ve always thought that the name was a reference to the Life Without Building’s song “Lets Get Out”….but I guess not.

@pdn: Don’t they crib shamelessly from Popjustice? Peter Robinson has been raving about them since last year.

The first publicist spam e-mail I received about these assholes (out of 6 in the past 3 months) opened with the sentence “In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, I want to introduce you to The Ting Tings.”

  16. Clevertrousers  |   Posted on Apr 30th, 2008

I liked them better when I just thought they were some Jamaicans who stuttered.

@Al Shipley: That sounds like the opening sentance of roughly half the emails I get from publicists. I think it’s a template that publicists use:

“In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, I want to introduce you to [Insert Artist Name].”

they sound pretty good to me. I thought the iPod ad was catchy. Though they sound very pop it’s still nice to listen to.
