Following last week’s unfortunate Whitney comeback show, news hits the wires of one that apparently went well! With actual singing! Whitney was paid, according to the brilliant reporting of the Telegraph, somewhere between “£100,000 to £1.7 million” to perform a series of hits for an audience including the Sugababes, Mickey Rooney, and Buzz Aldrin. Internet reports are rather vague as to the quality of the show itself, although it’s good to know Elton John’s partner has her back, telling a reporter “When you have someone like Whitney who is spectacularly talented, I think they can take as much time off as they want and if they get the right songs they can come back and sell lots of records.” [The Telegraph]

Mickey Rooney is still alive?
I just want her to stay clean. Honestly if she doesn’t sell another record I’d be happy so long as she’s sober. She’s too good for that life.

@loudersoft: And she can REALLY sing. Man, Mariah and Whitney put so many of today’s crop to shame because they did what they did without Autotune. Someone threw on “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” at a party the other night (probably ironically) and that thing was a MONSTER. And her singing was pretty astounding.
I saw her perform, though, in 1987 or so, and, man, she was really bad. She seemed weird and out of it then. I think my dad might have even said something about drugs watching it.
