"In response to an nearly unprecedented outpouring of concern from the Chicago music community, Ald. Eugene Schulter, chairman of the City Council License Committee, has decided that he will not present the so-called 'event promoter's ordinance' to the full council on Wednesday for a vote as scheduled—and that the committee will go back to work on fine-tuning the law." • Thank goodness. Nice to know my city council isn't completely idiotic sometime.

  • Hey could you guys send some of that level headedness and ability to listen to your constituency over here to Boston? We're clean out.

  • ...@Camp Tiger Claw: We really can't spare a whole lot. The Chicago City Council is currently embroiled in another fiasco about putting a kids museum in the park, and they're basically refusing to listen to anyone without a bit of cash to throw around. Frankly, I'm shocked that they're not going to try to just ramrod this through. It's weird that they would actually heed a public outcry.

  • I emailed Schulter (who is head of the licensing committee and happens to be my alderman) about this - probably the second time I've ever bothered to involve myself in city government. And it worked! My faith in democracy has been restored. Thank you, Gene Schulter... thank you. Now, stop handing out permits to condo developers or, so help me God, I will email you again.
