As much as it embarrasses me to admit it, when I saw the subheadline "'Thriller,' 'Pretty Woman' among selected" in regards to today's inductees into the National Recording Registry, I initially assumed that the Pretty Woman soundtrack would be preserved with The Best-Selling Album Of All Time in the Library Of Congress. I remember getting into an argument with my first boyfriend on whether Roy Orbison was blind or not (him: "He wears sunglasses all the time-- he's obviously blind. Duh!").

Hmmm. The NRR website says the Voyager Space Record was "never released to the public" but its contents WERE released very very briefly as a CD-ROM back in the mid-nineties...which is why, if you're lucky, you can find the audio contents of the disk on the file-sharing network of your choice.
