What Is Your Top Summer Jam Of ‘08 Candidate?

Happy Memorial Day weekend! To celebrate, I am going to put up my away message and read Madame Bovary on my back porch. (Who says I don’t know how to party?) But before I go, I want to ask a question that sorta pertains to this weekend’s status as the unofficial kickoff of summer: What is your early-season pick for this year’s summer jam? The reasons that I am asking this question will be made clear next week, but for now fight among yourselves. (The Lloyd/Lil Wayne collaboration above, “Girls Around The World,” may semi-predictably be my pick, but I’m not going to commit to anything just yet.) [YouTube]

Despite the appearance of Akon, I really like that new track from the wholly under-appreciated Kardinal Offishall:

Jackie Chain’s “Rollin” is awesome, and even though it’s not a single Rich Boy’s track “Haters Wish” off his new mixtape Bigger Than the Mayor is gorgeously carefree

    Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl”

    (Kidding)

  6. Nunya B  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

Wynter Gordon – “Surveillance.” If it ever gets released.

  7. Empire  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

summer jam you don’t want to tell anyone about:

bow wow- pole in my basement (aka his “sensual seduction” autotune and all)

  12. FionaScrapple  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

    Barracuda – Fergie

  13. Halfwit  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

@futurehorse: That hook is deathly. I totally agree on this prediction.

  15. Chris N.  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

“this aint sex” from the new usher could be the big usmmer single. who knows.

but! i AM predicting that Pork and Beans is going to be HUGE

The Flobots’ “Handlebars” . Mostly due to it reminding me of “The Distance”.

  18. Anonymous  |   Posted on May 24th, 2008

I think Autotune created based on Akon’s voice.

  19. Anonymous  |   Posted on May 24th, 2008

    was created, rather.

  22. Anonymous  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

that song u posted sucks. usher – love in this club is/will be the song of summer 2008. or is it already the song of spring 2008?

  23. Chris N.  |   Posted on May 24th, 2008

    That is correct.

  24. the earl grey  |   Posted on May 25th, 2008

at the moment sean kingston’s theres nuthin.
whatever mariah track comes after bye bye is possible.
whatever lil wayne song follows lollipop is possible.
actually game’s new ‘pain’ is great.

i think the usher love in the club is pretty weak.

theres a recent hip hop tune ‘im bout money’ [by baby d?] that is good.

theres are off the top of my head i have a list of 50+ songs that already rocked my 2008 …

personally im listening to Mobius Band & DJ Vibe [portugal] at home …

    HONEYBFLY is 100% correct.

The second I heard “loving you long time” I thought (a) this song is the perfect throwback to 90s Mariah, and (b) this song will take over my spring summer. I already played it out a little much, but it’s due for a comeback pretty soon.

    Too bad it won’t be a single…

oh and I have not heard the new Missy Elliott single (has anyone? It is due in a couple weeks…) but it will probably bang.

sorry, nothing posted so far tops the lloyd/lil wayne collab. and damn, it’s that soul II soul beat…or the one they jacked, or whatever (see friday’s post on the most important english band since the beatles).

  27. Anonymous  |   Posted on May 26th, 2008

Wayne and Bun B. The whole track jams, but the Robin Givens punch-line alone gives it top track status.

  28. illadelPharmD  |   Posted on May 26th, 2008

“Closer” is out Usher-ing Usher so far this year. Also, there’s no Justin single this summer. Though I’m afraid it may be cresting too soon.

  29. the rich girls are weeping  |   Posted on May 27th, 2008

I was counting on Mariah to pull out the winner summer jam, but not if “Loving U Long Time” isn’t a single.
