Some of my karaoke regulars are freaking out about Colby, and they are the types to listen to a song repeatedly in order to learn it, so for them it has great re-play value.

Jackie Chain, "Rollin'" samples Robert Miles "Children" fer chrissakes, too damn sluggish for summer.

(the Danity Kane link is pointing to Jackie Chain, by the way...) Danity might make it, since all music taste is dictated by idiot teenagers, and this song reeks of idiot teenager.

My money is on Snoop Dogg, "My Medicine", it appeals to stoners, country music fans, and hip-hop fans, (which over-lap in the center of a Venn Diagram for sure), but in the summer of "The Love Guru", and "Zohan" in the theaters, Snoop should get ready to go for the gold.. er... green.

If I have to hear that Colby O’Donis crud (not even Akon can make it better) all summer, I’m resigning. From … whatever post it is I hold.

I didn’t get to nominate anything over the weekend — unfortunately, for me the top contenders right now are Nelly & Fergie’s “Party People” and The Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name” — both have the earworminess of “Hey Ya!” But I’m not sure how realistic either choice really is in terms of becoming blow-up giant hits.

I didn’t get around to seeing the entire American Idol finale until this weekend, but I’d like to “write in” Carly Smithson and Michael Johns’ cover of Joe Cocker’s cover of “The Letter”. I have to disagree with your insta-reaction from the live-blog — I think this version was better than Cocker’s version. And it was also the only moment from Wendesday nite that I “rewound” (on my DVR) again…and again…and again…

If Smithson and Johns had brought that energy and passion to their weekly performances, they very well might not have been early “shock” eliminations.

P.S. Major props to the producers for giving these two their own spotlight performance — since when does Idol spotlight the 5th and 8th place finishers?
