Less than four years since the members of Phish went their separate ways, Trey Anastasio is dropping hits about a potential reunion, noting that he would give his left nut to play "You Enjoy Myself" "five times in a row every day" until he dies. This forced me to consider turning off Crazy Rhythms so I could find a youtube of "You Enjoy Myself," which I have never heard, and imagine what it would be like to perform the song five times in a row every day. Finally, between "Everybody's Got Something To Hide (Except For Me And My Monkey)" and "Moscow Nights," I did.
Huh! That wasn't so bad, actually kind of cute and pleasantly brief*. Performing the song five times a day could make you a little nauseous, but it sure beats prison.
"When Phish broke up, I made some comment about how I'm not gonna go around playing 'You Enjoy Myself' for the rest of my life," Anastasio said with a laugh. "And it's so funny because Fish and Mike and Page have been talking to each other a lot lately and now — it's not that I can't believe that I said that, but its symbolic of how much I lost my mind or how much I lost my bearings or something. Because at this point in time I would give my left nut to play that song five times in a row every day until I die. I certainly thought about that while I was in jail."
The other members of Phish probably won't require a testicular sacrifice to get them back on stage, so I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before they're back. Thanks to advances in technology and the meltdown of the music industry, it will probably be easier than ever not to hear their recorded work. Go for it, dudes! Buy some new trampolines.
*just kiddin', here's the full song in all its ponderous glory.

i feel like it's going to be a slow news day.
Enter the black hole of that song and you'll feel time slowing down even further.
Tough to call a song where the only lyrics are "wash uffize drive me to firenze" ponderous. But yeah, good for Trey for relearning his own songs after a several year stretch of being unable to do his own stuff justice.
A great band who, with 0 radio play, toured their asses off and became one of the biggest touring bands in the past 15 years.
In 1999 they managed to get 70,000 people to the middle of nowhere Florida for a New Years Eve run.
Good times. Hope they get back together.
@bnb614: Indeed.
@bnb614: Mechanical bulls used to be wildly popular as well. It doesn't make either good.
@GhostOfDuane: to be fair, there are other lyrics in YEM, if you can call "Boy Man God Shit" lyrics...
i kid, i kid; I will always love Phish. I never followed them around, but for a time in college they were right up there with my favorite bands. ah, pot...
Plus, Billy Breathes was a surprisingly good album.
@dog door: Billy Breathes still is a surprisingly good album. I listened to it just this week, and couldn't bring myself to hate it.
