    Nice tags, Maura…which sounds so sordid if I say it aloud.

    Now the question you should ask yourself:

    Was he ever mighty to begin with?

    *GASP, HORRIFIED REVELATION*

    Meantime Kim Thayil is having a blast playing on all sorts of Southern Lord releases like the new Ascend album, so I think we know who won in the end.

    @King of Pants: go listen to all of screaming life, ultramega ok, louder than love, and “birth ritual” and get back to me. oh and don’t forget “new damage.”

    @Maura Johnston: DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN

    @Maura Johnston: Also, I know hardcore fans mark it as the beginning of the sellout phase, but on “Outshined,” Cornell friggin’ owns.

    @Chris Molanphy: Fuck that sellout tag - I’ll take “Fresh Tendrils” off Superunknown as further proof (Then again, that also had the spoon song and the black hole one).

    @Maura Johnston: @Chris Molanphy: I can’t call myself a “hard core” Soundgarden fanboy, but Superunknown was the last great record of the “grunge” era. It was also the first Soundgarden record on which Cornell didn’t scream everything. Forget about “Spoonman” and “Black Hole Sun” — check out “Fell On Black Days”, “Superunknown”, “The Day I Tried To Live”, and “Like Suicide”.

    Does anyone else (unironically) like “You Know My Name”? (Theme for Casino Royale)

    @goldsounds: Yes — my mom. You may take that as you will.

    @Rob Murphy:

    Don’t forget “4th of July” or “Mindriot”, for that matter.
