Sophie Ellis-Bextor Puts On Her Dancing Shoes

sophieeeee.jpgTwo new tracks from Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s current recording sessions–which were originally supposed to be for an extra track or two to be tacked on to a greatest-hits album, but have since blossomed into a full-on album-planning outing–are currently on her MySpace page, and oh boy are they deliciously icy. The Calvin Harris-produced “Off And On,” which has apparently also been shopped to Roisin Murphy, works both the glum and club-ready sides of the fence, with 8-bit arpeggios driving the whole thing; meanwhile, “Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer” sounds like a lost Pet Shop Boys track, complete with big swooshy pre-chorus and drama-fueled string break. Love, love, love. [MySpace via Popjustice]

Smoking: Marilyn star Michelle Williams likes it not
Pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor has been scathing about Simon Cowell and Will Smith’s upcoming series to find the world’s best DJ, which wags have dubbed the ‘Decks Factor’. ‘Surely that might be a bit boring. What will they do, 60-minute sets?’

They are SO SO SO SO GOOD. I think the Freemasons-produced “Heartbreak” is the more single-worthy of the two but between the enunciation and the beats I’m even more excited for album #4 than I was for Trip the Light Fantastic.

“Murder On The Dancefloor” is the “theme song” for the club nites of D.C.’s closed social network for elitist douchebags, Late Night Shots.

And that is all I will say about this.

    Oh, except for this.

@Rob Murphy: if we all judged our musics by the other people who listened to them, we’d have no musics left.

Something that sounds like a Pet Shop Boys song?! Sign me up!

    Wait… Don’t.

Holy crapola! These songs bring me such joy. So much joy that I’m about to type the world’s worst analogy…

If Kylie Minogue is a Luden’s Cherry Cough Drop of Pop, than Sophie Ellis-Bextor is Halls Menthol-Lyptus. Cool, sweet, and wicked icy. It will cure what ails ya! Or something.

there’s not much difference between Róisín’s version and Sophie’s. they’re both tight dance tracks. helps that cathy dennis is one of the writers.

what strikes me odd, though, is how similar the synth loops are to Midnight Juggernauts’ “Into the Galaxy.”

@Rob Murphy: Yes, let’s judge Sophie because a bunch of assholes liked one of her songs five and a half years ago.

@kisskisskiss: Agreed on the single. The Freemasons have got a great production sensibility.
