“American Idol” Producers To David Archuleta: You’ll Play For Your Hometown Fans When We Tell You To, Little Boy

Those scrooges at American Idol are thwarting runner-up David Archuleta’s quest to give back to his hometown and to charity! Archie was slated to play a “thanks for voting for me” concert at the E Center in Salt Lake City this coming Friday, with proceeds from the show going to an unspecified charitable organization But the show’s bigwigs put the kibosh on the show, perhaps because they were afraid that after last year’s soft ticket sales for the annual Idol summer tour, effectively giving a whole market a reason to say “oh, I saw who I wanted to see already, so I’ll spend my money on a gallon of gas instead” when given the option to pony up for a show was maybe not the best strategy for bringing in revenue. (But I thought Brooke White was a Mormon, too?)

Tuesday afternoon, Archuleta’s agent — Roger Widynowski — said there would be no concert due to contractural obligations between the 17-year-old and American Idol.

On Saturday, Archuleta and several other Idol contestants will begin touring the country as part of the reality show’s official summer concerts.

Widynowski did not go into detail as to why Archuleta could not perform at the E Center — but just said that the Murray High School student simply could not appear at the non-American Idol sanctioned event.

Widynowski said the “thank you” concert would instead be postponed to a later date, which was not set. However, the agent said it would have to wait until the American Idol tour concludes.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the poll question attached to the story above–”Should the show go on?”–is running 80.5% pro to 19.5% con. (And yes, I voted yea, if only because that kid needs a little bit of joy in his life. I’m telling you, once he finally has the power to make his own decisions about his life, look out.)

    2008 American Idol Songwriting Contest
The following is a quote from USAToday.com

“The song was among “tens of thousands” submitted and combed through by 19 Entertainment’s more than 60 Artists & Repertoire staffers, who winnowed the list to a manageable pile before Idol creator Simon Fuller and his team pruned to 20 semifinalists, says Jeff King, 19’s U.S. head of digital entertainment.” End quote.

So if 60 different people were choosing …then how did we end up with so many people with ties to A.I.?

    1. 2008 American Idol Songwriting Top 20 Finalist (Andy Zulla) is an engineer on Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, Diana DeGarmo CD’s.

    2. 2008 American Idol Songwriting Top 20 Finalist (Wendy Wagner) is a backup singer on the new Clay Aiken CD.

    3. 2008 American Idol Songwriting Top 20 Finalist (Ryan Gillmor) wrote the song “Hey” which is the theme song for Fox Television’s show “Unhitched”.

    4. 2008 American Idol Songwriting Top 20 Finalist (Dan Yessian) wrote jingles for Ford Motors.

    5. 2008 American Idol Songwriting Top 20 Finalist (Luke Ebbin) is a producer on Austalian Idol 1st place runner-up Shannon Noll’s CD.

    6. 2008 American Idol Songwriting Top 20 Winner (Regie Hamm) is a co-writer on the new Clay Aiken CD.

    7. 2008 American Idol Songwriting Top 20 Winner (Regie Hamm) is a co-writer and personal friend of 2007 American Idol Songwriting Winner Scott Krippayne.

False Advertising Or Bald Face Lie? You Decide
I’m posting this June 04, 2008, 14 days after the American Idol Grand Finale.

I watched American Idol both nights of the grand finale waiting for the announcement of the winners name of the 2008 American Idol Songwriting Competition….and I’m still waiting.

The following quote is from the only link American Idol.com has concerning the songwriting contest. (It’s under the Show Guide Link….American Idol Songwriter)

    “The Nation Has Decided”

“Who Has Won? Tune in to the American Idol Finale on May 20th and 21st 2008 to find out.” End quote.

Like I said….I watched. And here’s the only thing said about the winner.

Ryan Seacrest……”Ladies and gentlemen singing the winning song of this years competition…Time Of My Life..this..is..your American Idol David Cook, Goodnight. End quote. (5 minutes 10 seconds into video)

14 days later American Idol has yet to name the winner. It’s not in the American Idol news section, not on the American Idol homepage…………..Nothing.

Last year the winner’s were introduced on camera by Ryan Seacrest. This year nada.

The following is from the Myspace blog page of the winner of the 2008 American Idol Songwriting Competition……. Mr. Regie Hamm……….and he does not seem happy.

“AMERICAN IDOL, MAGIC RAINBOWS …AND DOTTIE”

“The guy in the feather suit who wrote the song for Simon had his own photo stand where you could have your picture taken with him. Hmmmm, maybe next time I’ll write a song so campy it simply must be performed in front of fifty million people with the USC marching band. At least then I might have my name mentioned or my face shown …but I digress.” End quote.

American Idol made a lot of money off this contest and the ONLY thing we got in return was a thanks for the $10.00 email.
Thousands of paid money and this is how we get paid back.

@SimonSays76: Dude. Quit it. This is my final warning before I swing the banhammer.

The cancellation makes perfect sense and I am surprised (or maybe I’m not surprised?) that a family so embedded in showbiz didn’t think about clearing it the notoriously controlling producers.

  8. by NeverEnough at 12:29 pm

@Maura Johnston: But Maura! There is clearly a conspiracy afoot, woman! You can’t handle the truth.

  9. by CloudCarrier at 12:56 pm

I think the charity was called “The Jeffchuleta & Sons Book Mobile Fund for Weary & Displaced Youths”. I’m having Vincent Bugliosi look into it, answer due in 2017.
