Velvet Revolver’s New Singer May Come From A Land Down Under

June 5th, 2008 // 13 Comments

velvetnoweiland.jpgA tipster has very important innuendo regarding the new singer of Velvet Revolver, which will not be picked by reality-TV committee: “I have some new information coming from fans/family close to the hard rock Australian band Rose Tattoo to which Slash & Duff are HUGE fans of and shared the stage with many times, that Duff has been in communications with an Australian singer currently living in the USA. This guy can apparently sing up a storm and of course is a bloody Aussie, so that in itself along with the great voice will be a good choice for the band from all marketing angles.” Well, if there’s one thing Velvet Revolver needs after Libertad, it’s a better marketing angle. So, we have but one question for all of you: Who can it be, now? (We’re pretty sure the candidate in question is not Rose Tattoo singer Angry Anderson, since he’s apparently living in Sydney these days.) Poll after the jump!

    The mighty Daniel Johns?

Nah, Slash couldn’t play the songs he writes.

Oh my God, could it be Michael Johns? When I saw this I made that joke to myself, but it actually seems plausible.

My guess is Slash and Co. are looking for someone younger and less seasoned and therefore someone they’ll be able to control.

Hence my vote goes to Michael Johns.

Daniel Johns has that doody disease, doesn’t he?

In other lead singer news, did I read that Marty Casey is the new singer for L.A. Guns?

Oh good god let’s hope it’s not another American Idolite. Not in VR for crying out loud! The rumor floating around l.a. is they are looking at Greg Wayne. He’s a hot, young unknown who sings for the band Something To Burn, and this kid can blow. The icing on the cake of this particular choice is that his band is signed to Scott Weiland’s record label! Can you imagine how beautifully ironic it would be if VR were to pluck Weiland’s golden boy? Probably far too good to be true, but a man can hope. Weiland’s disrespectful ways will come back to bite him someday, of that i am sure.

I am writing this in support of your article you wrote involving the unnamed australian singer, as I have the following information from a friend of mine working for Rock 101 radio station. I also saw the guy sing at an open air concert and he caught some attention there.

From what I heard the guy’s name is Tim and he lives in Oregon, he had apparently swarmed VR members, Duff’s RAW Power team, and even Duff’s new band Loaded and their respective agents with letters and Emails selling himself to them and had sent his audition tunes to them after receiving responses.

It was said he didn’t want to conform to the whole commercialization of making scripted myspace video’s, youtube performances etc to get the attention of the band, and chose the old fashion job/audition approach of putting pen to paper, or in his case fingers to keyboard! As he stated, “if I can’t get their attention from reading something from my heart, how can I expect them to take me seriously, because everything I put into those letters & Emails shows my passion and perseverance”

That’s about as much as I can tell you, but I can assure you that the possibility of this Australian guy fronting the band is as real as Brian & Sam on youtube! Being an unknown and Australian is surely unique and a great twist to VR.
