By now, it’s been pretty well established that I love the Baltimore outfit Ponytail, which specializes in frenetic noise rock where every note sounds like it came from a rush of absolute euphoria. The intensity of their live shows isn’t quite captured by the clip for “Die Alman Bruder”–while they sound terrific on record, vocalist Molly Siegel’s posessed performances must be seen in person to be beheld–but the swirling, spattering paint that lurks underneath the whole clip embodies their “throw it all at the wall, and be as delighted by the stuff that sticks as the stuff that slides down slowly” aesthetic perfectly. This video would be made fun of by Beavis & Butthead, but they’d be splattering paint all over their living room by the very end.
