    The Mariah track has all the makings of a Summer NYC block party classic, but how can you deny all that perkiness and that Motown backbeat?

    Since they knocked out my Brooks & Dunn selection in round one, I am wholeheartedly throwing my support behind Alphabeat for the remainder of the tournament.

    man, I have been listening to that Alphabeat over and over now for a while and I honestly can’t decide if I like it or not. The verses sound like two drama kids at a high school battle of the bands. They are singing together but ultimately trying to make sure that everyone knows the one is better than the other. However, as soon as I start getting incredibly annoyed with the verse they bust out that chorus that sounds like it could fit in with the best of late-era Jam/eraly-era Style Council. Soooo conflicted.

    Alphabeat should just win the thing already!

    By the way, Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s new single is out of control!

    Well, being Danish I’m biased. But songs accompanied by color-coordinated videos are sure to get my vote anytime.

    @GeorgeLang:

    Yeah I agree with you on that Mariah tip. [Eventhough I am in Los Angeles where the June Gloom threatens to overtake the sunshine every single day before 12 PM] If the cards are dealt right she could have another Fantasy or Always Be My Baby on her hands. You know one of those Mariah Carey tracks that even the non-lambs can’t deny and love hearing at a cookout or house party. [Or when inebriated. Definitely when inebriated]

    I strive to be that person every weekend.

    @musicquizking: Is Sophie in the tournament? She REALLY should be.

    @chachwitablog: “It’s nice but I won’t remember a thing about it a week from now.”

    That’s exactly what I was thinking about the Mariah track.

    No. No. This vote is going all wrong.

    “Lovin you long time” is one of the best mariah songs, ever. it is also so perfectly transported as if from the 90s. like, this song just encapsulates everything that could have been fun about 90s pop. I dunno, it’s just so great.

    that alphabeat song is so meh. It’s nice but I won’t remember a thing about it a week from now.

    Well, I guess the votes have it. I hope the Mariah track (which I hoped, but didn’t actually expect to be a single) actually blows up though, because I think it really deserves it. I DO like that “the word is on your lips” breakdown in Fascination though. At least a totally undeserving song (Kid Rock?) didn’t best Mariah.
