Sure, the possible summer jam-in-waiting “I’ll Be Lovin’ You Long Time” is set to be released by Island Def Jam shortly, but it has to sting Mariah Carey that her current single, the “We Belong Together” reworkign “Bye Bye,” has been moving up the charts slo-o-owly (Last week, its eighth on the Hot 100, it inched up to No. 19 from No. 22.) What’s a girl to do? How about getting the man who is about to beat your 2008 single-week sales record and a singer whose voice can, somewhat inexplicably, turn almost any song into a top-10 smash? While Akon and Lil Wayne are pretty by-the-numbers on this track, with Akon singing a melody that recalls his “Ignition”-biting hit “Don’t Matter,” you have to admire the craven ambitions of whoever came up with putting these three together.
