Mariah Carey Makes A Last-Ditch Effort To Save Her Second Single

Sure, the possible summer jam-in-waiting “I’ll Be Lovin’ You Long Time” is set to be released by Island Def Jam shortly, but it has to sting Mariah Carey that her current single, the “We Belong Together” reworkign “Bye Bye,” has been moving up the charts slo-o-owly (Last week, its eighth on the Hot 100, it inched up to No. 19 from No. 22.) What’s a girl to do? How about getting the man who is about to beat your 2008 single-week sales record and a singer whose voice can, somewhat inexplicably, turn almost any song into a top-10 smash? While Akon and Lil Wayne are pretty by-the-numbers on this track, with Akon singing a melody that recalls his “Ignition”-biting hit “Don’t Matter,” you have to admire the craven ambitions of whoever came up with putting these three together. The weirdest thing about this is that she already did an official remix for this song with Jay-Z!

@Al Shipley: Which means, in Island Def Jam’s post-Jigga-as-executive math:

    Weezy + Akon > Jay-Z

I call that a belated bitchslap.

The only thing good about this song the 808.

The 808 is the only thing good about this song.

I agree with Maura, I think this is a fun and unexpected trio!

I don’t know that they’re hustlin too hard for this one though, it’s the 3rd single that really looks to be the grand slam of the summer, at least in Def Jam’s eyes.

Also, considering Janet’s recent public decries of the label, spending a couple extra bucks on MCC could be their way of throwing salt in J’s wounds.

    So harsh
