Start steeling yourself now–the MTV Video Music Awards are coming back Sept. 7, but after last year’s debaucherous debacle at a Vegas casino they’ll be returning to Los Angeles. The show will take place at the Viacom-owned Paramount Pictures Studio, which surely means that more money will be freed up for something like, I don’t know, a coherent script. One piece of good news: I’m glad they returned the show to its old week-after-Labor Day berth; I never understood the logic of moving it to the last week of August. I mean, I know they’re trying to get school kids to watch, but I managed to watch the thing every year I was in college, and anyway lots of college kids are back in school by late August anyway. And they were losing scores of people who are on vacation the week before Labor Day.
