I agree with bcapirigi. Were those the only two bands Fuse could think of for Rhode Island? Unlike bcapirigi, i've lived here all my life and i've (also) never heard of The Invite (Johnny Lingo I barely remember as a nominee from one of those Pheonix Best Music Polls). I can think of a handful of Rhode Island acts who are more well known then either of them (Lightning Bolt, Les Savy Fav, Black Dice, Throwing Muses, Talking Heads [you HAVE heard of them, Fuse?] - hell, I would've been happy if they picked John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band).

Beyonce v. Kelly Clarkson for Texas? Really, Fuse? There isn't some bonehead around your office who's really into Spoon, at least?

@Captain Wrong: Well, I noticed Indiana did better than Hawaii on the Fuse. Hmm...Jack Johnson or the Pussycat Dolls? Cold shit or warm shit?

@The Phoenix, Yeah, I guess I can see the Impossible Shapes as Indiana's best new band, if by new you mean band that has been around for 10+ years and has released six or so albums.

@Fuse, thanks for perpetuating the Indiana = land of the Jacksons stereotype.

@both, thanks for ignoring the Coug. (Mellencamp, to you non-Hoosiers.)

Phoenix's picks for Maryland aren't bad (John Fahey, The Orioles and our pals Wye Oak), but Fuse's pick of The Bravery (vs. Good Charlotte) is really bizarre. I've never heard of The Bravery having any Maryland roots, and as far as I can tell from their Wikipedia entry, the only thing close to a MD connection is that two members went to Georgetown University (in Washington, D.C., not Maryland) before forming the band in New York.

I looked up "schmindie" in the dictionary since I never heard it before and lo and behold there was a picture of Sam Beam's lame-ass, bearded self.

If it was that important that the Phoenix include both James Brown (no arguments here!) AND Iron & Wine, wouldn't they have appeared at least a little more credible if they said Iron & Wine was the best solo artist and James Brown and the Famous Flames was the best band?

Also, Jerry Lee Lewis over Louis Armstrong as Louisiana's best solo artist? No, no, no, no, wrong.
