Just in time for the BBQ-filled July 4 weekend, I’ve found a track to blare in between plays of that Lloyd song: Little Jackie’s “The World Should Revolve Around Me,” which is a huge, fun track from the new project by the Long Island native Imani “Legend Of A Cowgirl” Coppola. In the 10-plus years following that track, Coppola has collaborated with the likes of Mike Patton, Rahzel, and (really!) the Baha Men. Refresh your memory of what “alternative” used to sound like with the video for “Cowgirl,” which I’ve placed after the jump.
Oh, late ’90s, how you were so full of hope. Anyway, Little Jackie’s album The Stoop comes out Tuesday, and if that track and that title are any indication, I am going to love it.

Right on! I loved her in the 90’s and Little Jackie sounds promising.
Props for the Lisa Lisa reference.
The entire album is very good, but I think this single is the best pop record since Crazy. I cannot get it out of my head. The album is best described as “the Lily Allen of BedStuy”. A good thing.
I read that Imani said the band name from a kid that burned down her backyard when she was a kid. Funny. There is the LisaLisa reference or go way back to Puff the Magic Dragon (Little Jackie Paper). Ha!
I heard that this is going to be the theme song to VH1’s New York Goes to Hollywood. . .
