The British band 28 Costumes has a somewhat novel idea for the above clip, albeit one that’s very reminiscent of that YouTube album-cover battle everyone forwarded around last year. But the song, “Erika,” hits my well-worn “songs with shouty choruses sung by multiple Brits” sweet spot, and its spiky guitars may cheer up those of you who were bummed out by Bloc Party’s new track yesterday. Aww, I like it. I’m usually really fed up by those twee “look at my clever idea” videos that have lyrics on t-shirts, hats or something…or puppets…or paper dolls or, whatever. This one made me smile though. It has nothing to do with the fact that they used the Blur Best Of as one of the CD covers (O.K well just bit!) The song’s pretty decent too.
Mostly what I like about it is the charmingly cheap lighting and flickery film stock that makes it look like a video from 1982. Very apropos for the material and the gal’s hairstyle; less so for the jewel cases and Blur references.
@Chris Molanphy: I was thinking the same thing as soon as I saw it. If they had thought not to put in all of the anachronistic bits it would have looked (and sounded!)like something from 1982.
