The Voice of Lightness: Congo Classics 1961-1977. It's the album I have put on for pleasure more than almost any other in the past 12 months.) A few days ago, Ken Braun of Sterns Music emailed that he'd gotten indirect word from a former bandmate that Tabu Ley is in Brussels' St. Luc's Hospital; he hadn't gotten word of his condition. Tabu Ley is in his late 60s and in addition to music has spent several years working in the Kinshasa government; still, nothing has reached English Google as of yet. His collection from last year is wonderful, one of the most enjoyable listens on my ipod. And his album with Franco is, of course, classic. I just downloaded a collection of his work with Sam Mangwana from emusic that I can't wait to listen to.
A real giant of music. I wish him the best.
The Voice of Lightness? *checks eMusic* Sweet. eMusic has provided a wealth of African music lately.
Thanks for the heads up on this one. I'm kind of a n00b with the African stuff.
