“Project Runway” Picks Out The Brown M & Ms

ainttalkinboutfashion.jpg On the left: The inexplicable winner of last night’s episode of Project Runway, which I found really ill-fitting and not as worthy of last night’s title as Kenley’s gorgeous design. On the right: Eddie Van Halen’s “Frankenstein” guitar, which I didn’t realize was the designer’s unconscious inspiration for the frock until MTV’s blog pointed out that fact. (NB: That doesn’t make me like it much more.) [MTV Newsroom / Dress pic via Jezebel]

nice. much to my surprise and chagrin, i really liked that dress (though not as much as kenley’s, you’re right) and think it looked better on the runway than that picture would suggest. maybe i ate some bad chorizo or something.

regardless, i think we all lost, given that:
    (1) we are now apparently stuck with “suede” for the foreseeable future
    (2) we are apparently still stuck with the natalie p/devendra coupling for the foreseeable future (honestly, i nearly yelped, “why, nattles, why!” when she came out looking and sounding like someone far too cool for his nonsense, as per usual).

sorry, rest of idolator. i just hadn’t had a chance to talk PR with anyone yet today and this opened up pandora’s box…

@thearcanemodel: don’t be sorry! i think they’re going to keep suede around for as long as possible because he’s a ‘character,’ much like the guy who keeps calling everything ‘licious.’

@Maura Johnston: yeah, i think that was part of why leather chick got to stick around last time.

hope suede at least continues to make decent stuff. although i don’t necessarily think that he should have been the winner, christian’s talent went a long way to mitigate my annoyance with his gratuitous catch-phrasing…

that said - and this is completely catty - i think i’m most annoyed by portland-girl right now. you kind of expect/want the over the top suede-types mugging for the camera on these kinds of shows, but her west-coast hipster pretension/self-absorption is a little too real…

@thearcanemodel: speaking of, are you as surprised as i am that ms. leather made the top three? i guess her dress wasn’t as horrible as it could have been, but when her model walked out i instantly thought: “tawny kitaen.”

and this after nina’s lecture re: “shiny, tight and short”!!

okay, i think i’m done now.

@thearcanemodel: Speaking of Leather Rocker - has she never watched the show before? “This is not the style I design, I’m urban”…..ummm…so? Make a party dress and shut up!

@thearcanemodel: Oh, there is no other reason leather-chick could have been allowed to stay around last time — her design managed to be worse than the slasher-raincoat one!

I thought Kenley’s dress was great, but she had so much attitude about having her fabric chosen for her by the model that I was almost, almost glad that she didn’t win.

I look forward to -licious dude’s freakout when he starts to get pale. Is that wrong?

@TriedandTrue: seriously. the whole time i was, like, “suck it up, honey!”

@mishaps: i didn’t even consider that. i’m sure this is taking him away from his tanning regime. good call!

@mishaps: I felt like he was already a bit less orange-y than the first episode.

I will be glad once a few designers get auf’d because right now, there are just too many for me to zone in on the ones I like. I feel that those are the ones that aren’t getting any coverage because the crazies are taking center court.

WAY too many of those dresses last night were WAY too short. They said cockTAIL dresses…..not TEASE. (Sorry, couldn’t resist)

Haha, nice, someone made the same comment about the dress and Eddie’s guitar in my blog [chrisomatic.livejournal.com]

I wonder if they cheated and read your post first and acted like they were all original!
